test kotlaNew Delhi, Thursday, December 3 – The ongoing Test match series has so far been good for Virat Kohli-led team India, who attained 2-0 lead in 3-matches played so far.  The last Test match, which is in progress in Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, has great meaning for both teams. India are able to think of South Africa whitewash thanks to the victories they tasted  in Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali and Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

Criticism about pitches may be in picture if wickets are lost soon in the Game 4 of 4-match Test series. India have already sealed it, bouncing strongly back post taking lessons from the humiliating defeats in the ODI and T20 series at the hands of South Africa, who are popular for stylishly playing cricket, diving in different directions to stop the ball from going towards the boundary and hitting it classily to attain runs in speed while batting.

It is never easy for a team to ignore the potential housed by the Proteas. Proof of it is their sound victories in 50-50 and limited over games. It would be interesting to see that Test match duration will be alike what it had been in the earlier month or people will get to witness 5-day game. Virender Sehwag’s achievements at the Feroz Shah Kotla are huge. He can be a source of inspiration for Indian players, who keenly look forward to book a permanent spot in the team in longest as well as different formats. His 319-run knock against SA in 2008 is yet fresh in mind.

Not to forget that not so many runs were put by the team batting first in this Test series. And, it was wonderful to observe how India managed to pull off, defending the small total, giving timely jolts to the opponents one after the other. By this time South Africa must have got familiar with strong sides of Indian team. But what was that actually? Spin magic worked and Kohli’s decision to put Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in business worked in the contests that were won by 108 runs and 124 runs.

The match played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore was a draw despite a good partnership between Indian openers. Since Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan have once again arrived on the crease to face bowling attack of South Africa, hopes are surging from the two talented players. Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, the young captain, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, the wicketkeeper of India, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav are to bat yet. Responsibilities on the shoulders of Yadav will be massive as he replaces Amit Mishra, who although did not get more than a few wickets in the previous test but tried pouring dedicated efforts to get some crucial ones.

South African playing XI includes Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Dean Elgar, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Jean-Paul Duminy, Dane Vilas, Dane Piedt, Kyle Abbott, Morne Morkel and Imran Tahir. Proteas try to find an honorable exit that’s possible when success is earned at this stage. The ground looks green. Ball is swinging post tapping the pitch. As a matter of fact, the visitors must be missing a perfect all-rounder in the series, someone like Jacques Kallis. Those who got the opportunity to play with or against him know it very well how tough was it to dismiss the right-handed batsman, who was a right-arm fast-medium swing bowler as well, imparting his role in the best way possible.

As of now, Murali Vijay and Dhawan are batting at the scores of 10 runs and 5 runs, respectively. A no ball by Kyle Abbot in 11.2 over saved Vijay. It was a tough decision for the third umpire. No shoes of the bowler behind the crease gave Indian fans a big reason to cheer as saving wickets in first session is never easy. After 12 overs, India have scored 16 runs.

Objective of Amla to appoint Morne Morkel, Kyle Abbott and Dane Piedt in bowling job is to get wickets as early as possible. The opening duo did not hit any boundary so far. But the way efforts are being made by them to confidently face the ball is commendable. Despite being a working day today, the crowd in the stadium is good. Sunshine hasn’t been brilliant but that is to be abundant during the middle of the day. South African captain must be looking forward to employ rotational bowlers in business. If bowling change does some good for the travelers, they could think of being a step ahead of Indian squad in some contexts.

South African fielding has been great as players make sure to leave no stone unturned to do outstanding job. However, terrific efforts of India as a unit in the previous Test matches are adequate to tell they are better in various departments in more ways than one. Expectations are up from the 25-year-old Piedt, who has bowled well in today’s match. Variations in bowling weren’t seen but the young bowler gave his best to bowl in accurate line and length. Duminy can take some wickets as well. The audience is keen to notice how top & middle order and tail-ender batsmen perform as the game progresses ahead.

New combinations on the field might help Proteas get a breakthrough, which is required to put the host under pressure. Focus of Indian camp is on attaining a total which could actually help them accumulate a good total that could automatically build stress on the rivals. If the home side bats for the entire day, it would be quite simple for them to send opponents on the back seat. A lot of things depend on this match for Proteas, who want to conclude their tour of India by winning the last game. But would that be easy what they think? This will get clear after a certain span of time. Attention lies on the fact how many runs Indian opener put for 1st wicket partnership.
