ausindNew Delhi, Wednesday, December 9 – It was a great feeling for Indian camp on the home soil after they thrashed South Africa in Test series 3-0.  Had the Game 2 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore not been drawn, no wonder India would have logged win by a good margin then as well. This is said on the basis of 80 runs on the scoreboard by India in 22 overs in response to SA’s 214 runs in the first innings.

If truth be told then Test match finish at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi was an appropriate finale in some sense. The way it ended made the boys have faith in their abilities to pull off at a time when victory seems going far away. The 4-match Test series was wonderful for the Men in Blue giving them a sight over their potential. India reached at the second position in the ICC rankings with its latest win on the South Africans.

In spite of iconic efforts  by Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers as they batted for entire 4 day to avoid the looming defeat, India managed to utilize the breakthrough attained early next day which changed whole story for the opponents. Great spells in the last part by both Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav made India’s job a tad easy. A solid comeback by Indians allowed them feel having a hold on that wicket. The effervesce goes off on the surface with time. Given  that India bowled and batted better than South Africans, they outplayed the rivals totally towards the end. The trust over defensive strategy did not work for the visitors on Day 5 as Ravindra Jadeja bowled excellently well to give India a wicket what they strove for a whole day earlier and it was of South African skipper Amla.

He did not give frequent leeway thanks to bowling stumps-to-stump. Getting wickets that were actually important in India’s point of view helped Jadeja leave a long lasting impression on the viewers, who came to catch the action live leaving behind other important work. The 27-year-old NavagamGhed born bowler bowled fantastically in the series. Special performances from him and Umesh Yadav, who got three wickets when India came to defend the target, helped the host log a memorable win on the opponents, who were tough to beat in ODI and T20 series.

Ajinkya Rahane who was named the Man of the Match for getting two tons in Delhi Test dedicated the award to the people in Chennai and the Indian army for imparting major role in saving the populace in need. He had all reasons to be elated for himself and his team. If improvement is done on the personal front then viewers may get to see a lot from his cricketing skills. Self- belief made him travel a long distance in this competition. The Men in Blue worked hard, compelling the South African batsmen to put their weapons down. In spite of the fact that they left no stone unturned to play for the draw, disciplined bowling by Indian bowlers made them face Test defeat in 9 years in away tours. Indian team deserves the credit for not losing the patience when it was getting almost impossible to get a wicket and be close to the victory.

Biggest question at this point of time is that whether same momentum will be there within Indian playing XI when their tour to Australia to play 5 One-Day Internationals and T20 matches in packed stadiums at W.A.C.A. Ground in Perth, The Gabba in Brisbane, Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Manuka Oval in Canberra, Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney and Adelaide Oval in Adelaide from January 12 to January 31 or not. Eyes will surely be on Ravichandran Ashwin, who was given the Man of the Series for his immaculate show in lately concluded series.

Australian cricket team is always tough to beat and especially on their turf for the reason that focused approach makes them be ahead of the contesting group for more than a few occasions. Weather conditions of the country will be pivotal to take into account. More to the point, pitch with grass or no grass will sport different moods and it would be an interesting thing to observe whether India make their unfamiliarity both with climate and pitch their strongest point or will succumb to pressure. Australians ended their stint during cricket carnival held early this year by defeating them in the semi-finals by 95 runs. To improve record on Australian pitches, India would need to put best foot forward in all terms. Beating India on the home isn’t easy and South African squad lately got a taste of it.

The Aussies would surely keep in mind bounce back of Virat Kohli’s men in the longest format which wasn’t easy after being crushed in two different formats earlier. Indian team is likely to enjoy some rest to regain energy and utilize the same before the fly for Australia. Expectations are high from spinners thanks to flawless performances in Test series. But at the same time it doesn’t mean fast bowlers are evaluated any low. Challenges are going to be massive but taking into account India’s win in Sri Lanka under the captaincy of Kohli, cricket fans anticipate story will be different in Australia this time. They are left with no option but to wait as there remains more than a month time for India vs. Australia to start. Things will get clear then only which team is better in which aspect than the other.
