Will Indian Players Deliver the Best to Stand Out in 2016 T20 World Cup?

t20 teamNew Delhi, Tuesday, December 22 – T20 matches are super exciting. The reason behind this is conclusion of the game in a short span of time. In the lately concluded series between India and South Africa, taking into consideration One Day International matches and T20 games, one point is totally apparent that it is not going to be easy for the World Cup winners of 2007 to have a smooth entry in the major rounds.

The upcoming contests are definitely going to draw attention of the cricket fans. Mistakes if done from own end could cost India a match but at the same time it would be wrong to forget some great triumphs of Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team India in the previous years. The way they logged victory against Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2011 is a history.

Despite the fact that One-Day International series is a different format than the limited over games, potential of Indian cricketers can’t be calculated any low at all. It is also true that the neighbors defeated them in the grand finale of T20 and credit goes to team’s performance. But aside from their dedicated efforts, poor performance of a few Indian cricketers made things easy for the rivals. Under estimated performance of Yuvraj Singh at a crucial stage made Indian camp lose grip from the match. It is a different point to discuss whether he should be blamed of defeat in 2014 T20 World Cup or not but when a player is given a spot & preference in the group over others, it is his responsibility to showcase his talent, which enabled him cover a long journey.

The defeated party is going to remember that defeat for a long time however, it would be great to keep in mind the lessons learnt in major competitions like World Cup.  In view of the fact that preparations by all teams will be in top gear prior to the upcoming World Cup tournament 2016, Indian cricketers are anticipated to make good use of the given opportunity in the series against Australia in Australia. Winding it up on a positive note will absolutely be important for the squad that is to play under the guidance of Dhoni, who achieved a lot in his career. According to experts and his fans, a lot more cricket remains within him and nothing could be wonderful than putting his best foot forward and motivating boys to give their 100 per cent in all games. Virat Kohli, the leading scorer of previous T20 WC, made everyone familiar with his capabilities to do good at a stage where performance really matters. The 27 year old boy from Delhi scored 319 runs in six matches. Four fifties were hit by him in the tournament which was hosted by Bangladesh.

Even though Kohli won player of the series award but he would have been on cloud nine had his team lifted the winner’s trophy in the end. Indian playing XI is actually a mix of youngsters and some experienced players.  Here is to mention that it is under a transformation phase as bigger names did not succeed to deliver the desired performance as expected when given chance to play in previously held matches. Eyes automatically get shifted to the newcomers to do something outstanding that not only help them outshine amid other players but also lend a hand to entire team enjoy the win. It has been more than a few years when retirement of the Sachin Tendulkar, who is yet considered ‘God of Cricket’ Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, the stylish cricketer, left a huge gap in team India. It took time to get ideal substitutes but inconsistent show from a few still put the Men in Blue in problematic situation.

Before equations change, Indian players need to hone their skills, get the edge and get the most out of opportunity give to them over others. The team that will fly for Australia to play 20-20 over matches will include Indian skipper Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Harbhajan Singh, Umesh Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashish Nehra. It was a tad unfortunate for Ambati Rayudu to miss a spot in the lineup regardless of having ability to pull off at the time of need.

For the reason that the 30 year old right – handed batsman got enormous talent to play as long as possible and go for biggies without being scared of losing wicket early and taking the risk to accumulate several runs in slog overs, his selection could have let India gain ground in crucial matches. He failed to book a berth in the team that will board a flight to Australia soon to contest in ODI and T20 Internationals.  Who can forget his unbeaten innings of 121 runs off 118 balls that helped his team thrash Sri Lanka by 6 wickets late last year. Thousands of cricket fans witnessed amazing knock by Rayudu at Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera on November 6. His superb ton made his team to inflict a 6-wicket win on the rivals.  Shikhar Dhawan hoarded a number of runs sometime ago but a big inning from him will be expected.

None can forget the way Rohit Sharma marked his comeback with 264 runs against Sri Lanka a year ago. His play will be remembered by the generations to come. The right-handed batsman who is also an occasional right-arm off break bowler demolished Sri Lanka right from the beginning. It is not simple for any player to bat from the first over and play up till the final ball with same tempo.  After the play was over, the joyous man said, “I could have continued for another 50 overs”. The statement is alone sufficient of inform how far he could have gone had he gotten more than a few more overs to bat.

Stuart Binny hasn’t been picked in the team that will play in Australian conditions. In such situation what is expected from selected players is to stand out in all conditions. Suresh Raina’s presence in the team will probably have its own significance thanks to the kind of play he usually exhibit. Confidence of several other players like Umesh Yadav, Harbhajan Singh, Shami will get a boost with maximum number of victories on their end. Starting and finishing a tournament by tasting success in the last part could be morale boosting for India especially if cricket carnival has been slated to take place early next year.

The mistake of dropping Rohit Sharma at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, became one of the costliest drops in ODIs and there will be no room for such blunder. If recent performances by Indian players are to be kept in mind then they could surely make up in the final round of T20 World Cup but that would require much effort. Even though the tournament is to happen on Indian soil but a bit of practice on different kind of pitches of Australia could lend them a hand to get exposed to foreign conditions. As of now, it is their time to enjoy, practice in nets and learn the art to execute exactly on the field what they have planned in the dressing room.
